POEM FOR A BEATEN WIFEWind Lake, Wis.
Nineteen hours after calling 911
to say she was in the back
of her ex-husband’s truck with her hands
tied, she was discovered
by an employee of a storage facility
who heard whimpering
as he passed a private locker
on the second floor
and brokedown the door to find her
one hundred seventeen miles from home,
severely beaten, boundand gagged with duct tape,
and stuffed in a plastic
garbage can.
(I think she’s very lucky
said the Police Chief)
